According to Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Nayaka Thero, the Covid 19 Temporary Provisions draft bill is an even more treacherous set of laws than the 1815 Kandyan Convention. He pointed out that there are 13 sections in the Act and not few but seven of the 13 sections are unconstitutional and accordingly 60% of the Act is unconstitutional and illegal.
The bill was drafted by Ali Sabri, the Sri Lankan Minister of Justice, who is believed to have expertise in advising the President on legal matters. Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero points out that if this bill is passed, this country will be in a situation like Afghanistan.
