Why did the Director of Government Information resign
Minister of Mass Media and Information Nalaka Kaluwewa has resigned from his post, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella today (23). He was speaking at a media briefing on Cabinet decisions.
Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa is a Senior Class I (i) Senior Officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service and has ten years of experience holding various positions in the media field.
He was appointed Acting Director General of Government Information during the last government. Later in January 2020, he was confirmed in the post under the present government. At that time he was also the Additional Secretary to the President. As per the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers which met on 08.01.2020 to appoint the Director General of Information on a full time basis from 01st January.
The relevant letter of appointment was handed over to Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa by the Secretary to the Cabinet of Ministers Mr. S. Amarasekera on 13.01.2020 at the Cabinet Secretariat.
Accordingly, the sudden resignation of Nalaka Kaluwewa, who has been the Director of Information for more than a year, has become a problem for everyone in the media field. Everyone in the media knows him as a humble official in the fullest sense of the word. He was never a man who was proud of his position.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has said that his resignation was due to service requirements. Also, the Ministry of Mass Media and Information has taken steps to appoint a new Director of Information.
