Who are the MPs who go to Parliament every day?

 

Fourteen MPs represent 100% turnout in the Sri Lankan Parliament, including the Speaker.

It does not include any representatives of the Tamil people, including a Muslim MP representing the opposition.

Manthri.lk has revealed the information based on the attendance data of the Members of Parliament from August 2020 to March 2021 published on the official website of the Parliament.

According to the revelation, the majority of the 14 MPs who have registered 100% attendance in the Sri Lankan Parliament belong to the ruling party.

Five of them are people’s representatives representing the Samagi Jana Balawewa and the remaining nine are from the Sri Lanka People’s Front. Among them are two National List MPs.

According to the Manthri.lk website, five members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Chaminda Wijesiri, Gayantha Karunatilake, Hesha Vithanage, Lakshman Kiriella and Mujibur Rahuman have participated in every parliamentary session from August 2020 to March 2021.

Less than 50% of MPs

According to the official website of the Parliament, the attendance data of the 63 sessions held from August 2020 to March 2021, according to the Manthri.lk website, shows that the number of Members of Parliament is less than 50%. Seven of them are representatives of the Tamil people. The rest are representatives of the Sinhala people. It does not include any Muslim representatives.

MP Rajavarodayam Sampanthan has a 20 percent turnout, while Wijayadasa Rajapaksa has a 30 percent turnout.

Dharmalingam Siddharthan 36%, Palani Digambaran 38%, Tiran Alles 44%, Su. Nogaradalingam 46%, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan 46%, Dilum Amunugama 48%, Wimal Weerawansa 48%, CV Wigneswaran 49% and Jeevan Thondaman 49% are in Parliament.

All Sinhala MPs, who make up less than 50 percent of the electorate, represent the ruling party.
