When the present government came to power, various political promises were made to the people. There was also a promise to pay allowances and payments to the disabled police and war heroes till death. But it has not yet been fulfilled.
Due to this the Police Disabled War Heroes Association met the Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera at the Ministry of Public Security recently.
Here, it has been brought to the attention of the Minister regarding the delay in the implementation of the decision taken by the present government this year to pay allowances till death to police officers and soldiers who have retired due to medical reasons.
It was revealed that technical issues had caused to this and the Minister had promised them that he would intervene in this matter.
They also discussed in detail the problems of the police officers who died and became disabled during the period of terror of the JVP during the 88/89 period. During 88/89, 290 police officers were killed and 25 were disabled.
It has also requested to granting privileges, including promotions, to retired officers who have been injured in LTTE attacks and arrangements to make arrangements for their immediate retirements when necessary. The Minister of Public Defense, Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera stated that every effort will be made to take the necessary action for solve these issues.
