The Minister of Plantation Industries and Co-Cabinet Minister Ramesh Pathirana stated that it is with the utmost respect that the legal process regarding the Easter attack is being carried out very clearly and expeditiously and that our Government has no reason to cover up or hide this.
He recalled that the previous government had established good governance in the event of the Easter attack and that the Presidential Commissions had been set up. He says that in a very short period of time, the President and Parliament were presented and handed over to the Attorney General and handed over to other religious leaders.
He also said that the past good governance had repeatedly mentioned the security of the state and the breakdown of the good governance and that all those who were involved in the good governance should be held accountable for that, and that it was very clear in the report of the committee.
He was speaking at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (09). Answering a question asked at this press conference.
Speaking at the event, Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that the recommendations of the commission contain only recommendations and that all the recommendations contained in the reports of any Presidential Commission have never been implemented in the history of Sri Lanka.
Also, these recommendations are divided into two parts, one is the legal recommendation and the other are the political and social recommendations. He said they would make sure no one else interfered.
Can the Presidential Subcommittee put these other recommendations into practice in other respects? If so, how can they be activated? He further stated that the report will be submitted to the President in the future.
However, today (09) several news outlets had reported a statement made by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka People’s Front, Minister, Prof. GL Peiris. He said it was difficult to implement the recommendations of the Easter Commission and that it was not appropriate to ban the BBS.
He had also stated that he did not believe that banning the BBS would be good.
Meanwhile, the report of the Presidential Commission to Investigate the Terrorist Attacks on Easter Day will be taken up for debate in Parliament tomorrow (10).
