There is nothing new in making alliances

Former President Maithripala Sirisena says that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has no plans to leave the government. He says that building an alliance is nothing new and that if anyone says that the SLFP is leaving the government, it is completely untrue.

He was speaking at an island wide blood donation drive in Polonnaruwa yesterday (01) to mark the 70th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The former President was responding to a question raised by journalists as to whether the SLFP was deciding to form a new alliance and leave the government.

Journalists inquired from the former President about the walking lane project on the Parakrama Samudra tank bund.

He said that when the irrigation experts in this country looked at the views of the farming community and the Polonnaruwa Maha Sangha regarding the project to build a walkway on the dyke of the Parakrama Samudra, all of them had told themselves that this project should not be done.
