There is no such thing as fundamental rights in Sri Lanka – Prof. Rohan Samarajeewa

Prof. Rohan Samarajeewa says that although there is such a thing as a fundamental right in the constitution of the country, there is no such thing as a fundamental right in the country.

Uvidu Kulakulasuriya, a former leader of the 2008 Free Media Movement, filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court on May 21 alleging that he had abruptly stopped a live discussion on a television channel. .

Mr. Rohan Samarajeewa points out that the verdict on the violation of fundamental rights after 12 years cannot be accepted as a verdict and says that the journalist who filed the verdict is not in the country.

He points out that the entire judicial system of the country is in a weak state and for example two generations have passed since a land case was settled.

He emphasized that although the Constitution states that cases related to fundamental rights should be decided within two months, there is no such process in the country.

He goes on to say that it is useless to put letters in a book and to find out how they work in practice.

The professor made these comments in a conversation with a website.
