It has been revealed that while action can be taken against individuals who do not follow proper health guidelines to prevent the spread of epidemics, health authorities do not have the capacity to enforce the law against institutions that violate them.
The Sri Lanka Association of Public Health Inspectors has revealed that the number of infected people from the Covid cluster of Brandix, an international garment factory, has crossed 560 in two days.
“Further guidelines issued in the country are valid. But there is a problem with them not being legal. Regarding adherence to guidelines. At the moment we are not able to take legal action against violations, especially in factories, government agencies and other institutions. ”
Upul Rohana, President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association, emphasized that the quarantine law on the control of communicable diseases was established in March to control Covid 19, an infectious disease. That there is a possibility of legal action against violators.
Accordingly, there is a possibility of filing a case against them if they do not follow the health instructions given to control the virus, such as wearing masks, hand washing and disinfection, said Chairman Upul Rohana.
He further stated that there is a possibility of prosecuting the Public Health Inspectors and the Police Department directly against any person who acts in a manner that contributes to the spread of a contagious disease.
