The term of the Commission of Inquiry into Political Revenge has been extended for the third time

The government has taken steps to extend the term of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate political revenge, which was due to officially expire, by six months.

Accordingly, the Commission has been extended for another six months till April 28 .This is the third time the term has been extended. The official term was scheduled to end on the 28th.

The commission was appointed by the President to look into political revenge that took place between 2015 and November 16 last year. The three-member Presidential Commission of Inquiry was appointed on January 9, 2020.

Investigations by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, FCID, CID and the Special Investigation Unit of the Police entrusted the Commission with the investigation of political revenge victims and their background from January 8, 2015 to November 16, 2019.

The Commission conducted a lengthy investigation into serious fraud, corruption, abuse of state resources, privileges, power and authority. According to the newspaper advertisement, 1971 complaints had been submitted for investigation. The report consisted of 03 volumes and 2043 pages.

The three-member commission is chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, while the other members are retired Court of Appeal Judge Daya Chandrasiri Jayatilake and retired IGP Chandra Fernando.
