The media recently reported that a new post called Coroner (Muslim) has been created for the Divisional Secretariats with a Muslim population of 5,000 or more to apply to the relevant Divisional Secretariat.
Accordingly, a post will be created as a coroner (Muslim) for a number of divisional secretariats in the country and this has been stated in the Standing Task Code on new coroners issued by the Ministry of Justice.
However, the Ministry of Justice states that it has been found that certain groups are trying to spread a misconception in the society regarding the call for applications to fill the vacancies of coroners.
There is no truth in the propaganda that there is a plan to create a new post of coroner (Muslim) and the Ministry of Justice has not taken any decision in this regard and no policy decision or any other order has been issued by the present Minister of Justice regarding the appointment of vacant coroners. He also says that it has not been cut.
It is emphasized that what has been done is to fill the vacancies in the existing posts by calling for applications under the normal procedure followed so far.
In order to make the role of coroners in the Ministry of Justice more efficient in 2018, the then Minister of Justice appointed a committee of experts appointed under an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice to identify various issues and conduct burial activities of Muslims within 24 hours. Among the recommendations of the committee appointed in 2018 was that problems would arise due to duty only within the limits and accordingly, the committee appointed in 2018 had proposed sudden deaths in 88 multi-ethnic territories representing multi-ethnic areas. That the appointment of inspectors is appropriate.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice further states that in the event of vacancies in the existing posts, the present Minister of Justice has not taken any steps to create any vacancies or issue an order to fill the vacancies except to fill the vacancies as per the normal procedure prevailing so far.
