The government is playing with the lives of university students

The Medical Faculty Student Action Committee alleges that the government has failed to formulate a program to open universities even after a year has passed.

It has been more than a year since the universities closed. All universities were closed in March last year due to the Corona epidemic. At that time, the study was conducted online. However, they point out that the practical examinations and even the clinical training of the students have come to a standstill due to the fact that the study activities are conducted only online without proper procedures.

Instead of allocating additional funds to provide healthcare facilities to universities, the government has slashed the allocations by 40% and the impact of science on resuming university education and ensuring the safety of students as well as non-academic staff by setting up a healthcare system. The Medical Faculty Committee also states that it is unfortunate that the health care system has not been properly developed at the administrative level.

Also, after the PCR tests revealed that 13 students of the University of Moratuwa were infected with Kovid, the Medical Faculty Student Action Committee points out that the university has been closed down and all students have been sent home at risk, according to the PCR conducted by several students of the Moratuwa Faculty of Information Technology. Tests revealed that they knew Covid was infected.

It is said that the University of Ruhuna is also falling prey to this epidemic and that it is due to the weaknesses of the administration including the Vice Chancellor.

The University Grants Commission also emphasizes that it is following a policy of silence and that the administration and the government are playing with the lives of students.

Therefore, the Medical Faculty Student Action Committee calls on the government and the university administration to intervene responsibly to control this situation.
