The government has spent Rs.286 billion so far on Covid19 virus control and related activities, state media spokesperson minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
He said that in the first phase of the corona epidemic, Rs.80 billion was spent on providing Rs.5,000 worth financial assistance to the families, Rs.15 billion during the Sinhala New Year and Rs. 35 billion at present.
He was speaking to the media after a special discussion on the Covid19 epidemic situation at the Central Provincial Governor’s Office today (05).
The Minister said that although there are allegations of providing financial assistance, at the rate of Rs.5,000 each to 4 million families, the provision of financial assistance is being done with maximum fair.
The Minister stated that the second dose of the Sputnik vaccine given to the Kandy District will be given to Sri Lanka on the 11th of this month and the vaccine will be available to the public from the 15th June.

He said that no country in the world has controlled the epidemic within a specific framework and the government is committed to implementing the recommendations of the health sector to the control prevailing pandemic.
Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella further stated that the government was able to manage the problems that arose in the operation of 4,000 corona immunization centers.
