The government does not need to beg from the private sector when there are provisions for health – Ranil wickramasinghe

UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that a government with free health care is begging the private sector to give us money instead of allocating funds from the budget during the epidemic situation in the country.

He was speaking at a youth briefing on the current situation in the country, including the Corona situation, yesterday (16).

He said that the government has requested the exporters to provide a grant of US $ 10 million to obtain the required vaccine for the country.

Mr. Wickremasinghe pointed out that the new ventilators were added to the hospitals from last March and were available in ambulances.

But there are not even 3,000 ventilators and there are not enough PCR machines in the country, he said.

“It is the duty of the country to provide medicines and vaccines to the people of the country, but that is not happening now and the government and the parliament should keep an eye on this,” he said.

He pointed out that his party was ready to support it and that there was no point in changing governments, adding that the problem here was the struggle for survival and health security.

He also said that the tug-of-war within the government was useless and that accepting the pledge now would not make any difference as covid had identified but was ready to help.

He emphasized that the truth should be revealed in Parliament before that and that a Parliamentary Select Committee should be appointed for this purpose.
