Susil Premajayantha, State Minister of Education Reforms, Open University Promotion and Distance Education said that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will be passed, which is the aspiration of all those who contested under the Sri Lanka People’s Front.
He was speaking to the media after a program held at the Gurudeniya Education Development Center in Kandy.
This program was held to present the ideas and suggestions of the Kandy Association of Professionals on Educational Reforms.
The Minister said that the opinion on the petitions submitted to the Supreme Court will be expressed in the next two weeks.
Minister of State Susil Premajayantha further stated that there is nothing in the Twentieth Amendment that goes beyond the 1978 Constitution or leads to a referendum.
The 19th Amendment to the Constitution has been repealed and three issues have been highlighted. The term of office of the President is five years, the President will not be able to hold office for more than two terms and the Freedom of Information Act will remain unchanged.
The abolition of the Audit Commission will not eliminate the auditing of state institutions. Every government institution is audited. There is even an audit bill in this regard. The Audit Commission and the Audit are two things. In the event of the abolition of the Audit Commission, the audit will not be abolished at all. Even in the absence of an Audit Commission, state institutions were audited. The facts were reported to the COPE Committee. The financial control of Parliament was the same.
Minister of State Susil Premajayantha further stated that despite the existence of the Audit Commission and the COPE Committee, the Central Bank Bond Fraud, which is the biggest fraud in the country, was not revealed by any of them but by a special Presidential Commission.
