The Right to Journalists Association says that citizens who use social media should not be arrested or remanded even for offenses for which they can be warned or advising.
The Journalists for Rights also states that it is the responsibility of a democratic government to enforce the law equally for all without specialization.
Journalist Dulan Dasanayake and journalist K.S. Sanjeewa has stated this in a press release.
It further states:
The Government should also take steps to enhance the media literacy of all citizens and to make them aware of the ethics to be followed especially in the use of social media. We especially urge the authorities not to arrest and remand citizens who use social media for offenses that could result in warnings or warnings.
None of these activities should affect the freedom of speech and expression and freedom of the press guaranteed to citizens by the Constitution, and we assert our democratic responsibility to act in a manner that encourages journalists and citizens to communicate information and ideas in an ethical and lawful manner.
