The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has released a new study on the prison system in Sri Lanka. According to this report Sri Lankan prison is unsuitable for human use.
The study examined 20 prisons across the country, including prisons, remand prisons and work camps. In this study, inmates, prison authorities as well as other parties including government agencies, independent and non-governmental groups were discussed.
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said in a study that the study, which was conducted from April to September 2018, had received positive feedback and support from prison officials.
The study was published in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus in prisons in Mahara, Welikada and Anuradhapura. The findings of the study equal with the recommendations of the interim report on the November 29 riots at Mahara Prison.
