SL Aviation Unit in Minusca conducts ISR operations in Central Africa…

A combined operation was carried out by Sri Lanka Air Force’s No 62 Flight at United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), to assist Zambian Special Forces to restore peace in the Boramata area in the Eastern Sector of the Central African Republic.
On 1 December 2020, the Keche Village in Boromata was attacked by Arab Messiriya Janjaweeds, which left almost the entire village guttered with fire as most of the grass thatched houses were burnt down. The respective village was located more than 100kms away from the nearest UN compound and ground troops took more than 3 days to reach the disputed location due to rugged road conditions.
The No 62 Flight conducted 8 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) flights and 3 replenishment flights to the given locations in support of the Zambian troops on ground while detaching two helicopters to Birao. The mission officials praised the efforts of the Sri Lankan Aviation Unit by giving recognitions to the reediness and professionalism rendered in their hour of need.
The mission is to create a safe haven for the IDP’s that counted more than 2000 and adding up and locate armed elements that can hinder peace
