Although the release of Tamil political prisoners is an easy step for the government, the present government has not yet paid attention to that, said TNA Kilinochchi District Parliamentarian S. Sridharan.
He points out that 106 Tamil political prisoners were released during the Yahapalana government and that there are about 60 Tamil political prisoners still at jail.
He says that even 70-year-olds like Navaratnam are still being detained and that it is unfair to detain such elderly people.
Requests have been made to External Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and State Minister Chamal Rajapaksa to release the 60 political prisoners and the names of these prisoners has published in Parliament recently.
He was speaking at a media briefing which held recently.
