The Government Information Department stated that 1923 covid patients were identified in the country yesterday (03). This is also the highest number of covid patients identified in a single day in the country.
At present the number of active covid patients being treated is 14758. This is the first time that such a large number of active covid patients have been reported in the country.
Accordingly, the total number of covid infections identified so far in the country is recorded as 113,676.
Due to the increase in the number of covid patients, the hospital staff is also in a difficult situation. It is clear that the staff, especially in the intensive care units, have to work under a lot of pressure these days.
The Public Service United Nurses Association also held a media briefing yesterday (03) in this regard.
The union pointed out that due to the shortage of trained nurses in the Intensive Care Unit, the number of nurses currently employed in the service has had to be tripled.
Pushpa Ramyani de Zoysa, organizer of the Public Service United Nurses’ Association (Colombo General Hospital), said that despite repeated requests as an association, no proper response had been received and that it was now exploding due to the minimal staffing of nurses.
Meanwhile, Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera stated at the media briefing that retired retirees should be brought in. The Ministry of Health has requested all nurses to undergo special training for the next six months before the New Year, but it has not been provided.
