The Opposition has been alleging for some time now that there is a process of bringing in, deporting and deporting people from other countries.
The most recent of these was the allegation made by Samagi Janabalawegaya MP Kavinda Jayawardena on April 27. He said that there was a campaign to bring Indians to Sri Lanka and quarantine them. He also pointed out a pamphlet to the media. He accused Corona of running a business.
The next day, Cabinet Media Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella vehemently denied his statement, saying it was a blatant lie.
However, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that this was not a scam but a wrongdoing. To regulate this, Indians will be sent to Level Two hotels, quarantined for 14 days and given several PCRs. He had said in response to a question raised by journalists in Gampaha that there was no need to be afraid as they were coming through the tourist bubble.
However, the issue spread to the parliament and many opposition members started accusing it. MP Harshana Rajakaruna said that while the whole world is watching what is happening to India, Indians are being brought here. He also said in Parliament that one of his people had called the relevant number and that the person who had spoken there had said that such a thing was happening but now it has been stopped for a while.
Meanwhile, JVP MP Vijitha Uherath also stated that the Minister had stated in Parliament that the second wave of Kovid had started while quarantining Ukrainians at a hotel in Seeduwa.
However, when asked about this allegation on Hiru TV’s Salakuna program, the Director of Health Services, Asela Gunawardena, said that he was not aware of any of these activities. He said that this was a complete mistake and that it was not a decision of the Department of Health.
He further stated that he had spoken to the relevant authorities and asked them to stop this immediately.
Accordingly, it appears that a process of quarantining foreigners has taken place in this country. The quarantine office was set up in a building in Ekala, Ja-Ela and is currently closed.
