Public Defense Minister responds to Attorney General’s allegations!

Incumbent Attorney General Dappula de Livera is due to end his term on May 24. So he is finishing his duties these days as much as possible.

Meanwhile, he made a special announcement to the public yesterday (15). He said he would not be able to file charges against anyone who planned, aided or abetted the Easter attack related to the Easter attack during his tenure and did not take action to prevent the attack.

He stated that the reason for this was that the investigations carried out by the CID had not been completed. The Attorney General had informed the IGP in writing yesterday.

Following a discussion with the Kolonnawa Divisional Secretary, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera today (16) regarding the Attorney General’s statement, he told the media that he had called for a report from the CID.

The Minister said that a few months ago, all the reports required to prosecute 42 people in connection with the Easter attack were submitted to the Attorney General, pointing out that this is now a new trend.

The Minister further stated that a statement could be made in this regard after receiving the report from the CID.
