The Police Department has made public the action that can be taken when suspects in police custody are subjected to brutal torture.
According to the International Human Rights Action Plan (2017-2021), any person who is subjected to brutal torture while in police custody can lodge a complaint with the following officers to seek justice, according to the Police Department’s official news website.
Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the district,
SSP / SP in charge of the division,
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the District,
Senior DIG in charge of the province,
In addition, the Sri Lanka Police informs that there is a possibility to lodge a complaint at the Police Headquarters.
