A law student by the name of Migara Gunaratne has been assaulted by a group of Peliyagoda police officers yesterday (25), reports say.
He had gone to the Peliyagoda police station to meet a suspect who had been brought to the police station, where he had been assaulted by about 10 police officers, he said.

Minister of Public Security, Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to interdict the police officers involved in the attack of a law student inside the Peliyagoda Police Station.
The minister told media that he had instructed the IGP to conduct a special inquiry into the matter, claiming he would never condone such an attack by police officers inside a police station.
