Archbishop Cyril Gamini, the media spokesman for the Archdiocese of Easter Committee, has filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court today (02) seeking an injunction restraining his arrest.
The Fundamental Rights Petition has been filed naming seven persons as respondents, including the IGP, the Attorney General, the Director of the CID and the Chief of State Intelligence.
The Head of the State Intelligence, Major General Suresh Sallay had lodged a complaint with the CID against a statement made by the Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini regarding the investigation into the recent Easter Sunday terrorist attack.
He had earlier been summoned to the CID to make a statement regarding the complaint. Rev. Cyril Gamini has filed a Fundamental Rights Petition in the Supreme Court stating that he has been summoned to appear before the CID tomorrow as well and that he has received information that the CID is preparing to arrest him after taking a statement.
