Pay attention to pregnant mothers in the private sector too!

The whole country is now aware that the new strain of the virus, which is spreading as the third wave of Covid, is extremely dangerous to pregnant mothers.

A pregnant woman infected with Covid in Sri Lanka has died in Karapitiya, Galle yesterday (09). Accordingly, the deaths of two pregnant mothers have been reported from this country.

According to health officials, there are currently about 150 pregnant mothers infected with Covid. Zoysa Hospital also has about 70 babies infected with Covid.

In order to protect pregnant mothers in the current situation, the Ministry of Public Administration has taken steps to temporarily suspend the recruitment of pregnant women in all public institutions. A circular to this effect is to be issued today.

Health Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Minister of State for Pharmaceuticals, Supplies and Regulatory Affairs, said that the decision has been taken by the health authorities to take a decision regarding the provision of corona vaccine to pregnant mothers.

The steps taken by the government with regard to pregnant mothers should be appreciated. However, pregnant mothers working in the private sector should also be taken into consideration. There are a large number of pregnant mothers who go to work using public transport, especially without any facilities in the private sector.

They too give birth to children. That is the future of this country. In this case, if pregnant mothers in the private sector do not go to work, it will affect their employment. But if the government intervenes and gives them relief like in the public sector, their jobs and health will be protected.
