The youngest Covid death in Sri Lanka was reported on the 8th. It is from the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo.
20-day-old baby from Modara was admitted to the Children’s Hospital on the 8th at around 4 in the morning. A PCR test revealed that the baby was infected with Covid. He was later admitted to the intensive care unit where the baby died.
What is special about this is that even though the child is infected with Covid, the parents of the children are not Covid infected.
The parents of the baby did not come to get the body after the death and the body was cremated at the expense of the government as a relative of his did not come to receive the body. Mr. Wijesuriya had mentioned on December 10.
This news brought tears to the eyes of many mothers. Because the child’s parents did not offer to accept the body.
However, the parents of this child appeared before the Supreme Court yesterday (23). To file a fundamental rights petition regarding the death of his 20-day-old infant who died of the Kovid-19 virus infection.
The petition, filed by Mohamed Farooq Mohamed Fahim and Fatina Shafnaz, named the Director General of Health Services, the Lady of Ridgeway Hospital, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, and several others as respondents.
