Manusha Nanayakkara, Member of Parliament for the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) says that 90% of the owners of media institutions have passed only the GCE Ordinary Level examination.
He says this was revealed according to a recent survey report.
He says that if one person owns several media institutions, there will be a media monopoly and now some television stations, radio channels and newspapers have given frequencies that are public property to their friends, relatives and close friends.
Manusha Nanayakkara says that the owner of one media channel in countries like Australia cannot run another media institution.
Mr. Nanayakkara further states that these businessmen who use this media for their political interests are being used as media prostitutes.
He also emphasized that the training courses given to journalists have been suspended for ten years and this will reduce the literacy and growth of journalists.
