One lakh tele mails to president…

Many retired from the public service during the period 2016-01-01 to 2019-12-31. But they did not receive their pension. This is due to the decision of the Cabinet chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to suspend the pension due to pensioners from 2016 to 2019 from 01.01.2020.

Accordingly, the pension payable from 2020-01-01 has been suspended by issuing Circular No. 35/2019 (I) and Public Administration Circular No. 35/2019 (I) dated 20-01-2020.

Therefore, during this period, all retirees came together to form the National Organization for the Protection of Retirees’ Rights. Despite various measures taken over the years, no positive response has been received.

At present there are around 135,000 pensioners who have lost their pensions.

All of them said, “Please pay the lost pension.” The Executive Council of the National Organization for the Protection of Retirees’ Rights has taken steps to send a telephone message to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today (15) through post offices island wide.

Accordingly, telemail messages were sent to the Colombo District today (15) at all post offices in all districts including Colombo, said the National Organizer of the National Organization for the Protection of Retirees’ Rights, Mahinda Jayasinghe.
