The Nugegoda Magistrate and the Additional Magistrate’s Court have decided to conduct court proceedings through Skype technology until the current corona epidemic in the country is brought under control.
The Registrar of the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court announced this on Tuesday, May 4, as per the court order.
It states that since Skype calls for insurance extensions for suspects currently in custody, if a lawyer intends to make a bail application in such a case, he can contact the relevant lawyer via Skype only for that bail application.
For that, a text message should be sent to the court Skype ID before 10.00 am every day stating the case number, name of the lawyer making the request, Skype ID to be contacted etc. .
The court will then be notified of the time to be involved in making the relevant case requests via Skype ID.
The Registrar of the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court informed that the lawyer will be contacted through the Skype ID provided by the lawyer when the case is taken up.
Also, in the daily proceedings of arresting suspects and presenting them to the judge, the judge examines the suspects only for the legal purpose of personally examining the suspects and has taken steps to consider the claims of the plaintiff and the defendant in the case only through Skype.
If a lawyer intends to make a request for a case to be filed by the suspects, the name of the relevant suspect and the details of the police station where the suspect is being presented should be submitted along with the name of the lawyer mentioned above, along with the Skype ID.
The relevant police and the lawyer will be contacted via Skype when the case is called.
The notice issued by the Registrar of the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court further states that since it is a court case to submit a request through Skype, the lawyers making the relevant request should be dressed in court.
Otherwise, requests will not be allowed via Skype.
