The Sri Lanka Institute of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recently reported that pregnant mothers should be extremely careful as they are at high risk of contracting the new covid 19 virus, which is currently spreading in Sri Lanka.
The report further states that three pregnant mothers who have contracted covid are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Units and that the Royal Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the United Kingdom has recommended that pregnant mothers be vaccinated against covid. Had done.
But it still seems that no one is paying attention to pregnant women working in the public and private sectors.
Therefore, the Center for Joint Development Officers has sent a letter to the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government in this regard. That Public Administration Circular: 02/2021 (i) regarding the negligence of pregnant women officers on duty in the public service.
The letter states that although the Ministry of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government has recently issued a circular regarding the current covid 19 virus situation, the circular has not provided relief to pregnant women officers in the entire public service as in previous Kovid cases.
At the moment, pregnant women report to work using public transportation, and the letter emphasizes that some institutional heads do not comply with the circular, as the agency chief is authorized to call employees on duty.
Therefore, this letter further urges the government to pay immediate attention to this matter and to take immediate action to provide relief as before for the recruitment of pregnant women officers in all public service.
