Polonnaruwa Additional District Secretary WGW Wanasinghe says that despite the corona epidemic, many children in the Polonnaruwa district have become addicted to computer games and mobile games.
He also said that the officers have difficulty in implementing divisional and village level programs to provide the necessary guidance to control them.
He was responding to a query made by us regarding the problems faced by children during the corona epidemic in the Polonnaruwa district.
He further said that the Polonnaruwa District Child Protection Committee had even failed to convene meetings for this year and the travel restrictions and quarantine curfew were in effect on every day used. He added that this was one of the reasons why officials were suffering from the corona epidemic.
“These days we have problems with the information reporting mechanism regarding children. The children are with their parents at home. A situation arose where our officers could not search for information at the village level or implement programs. But because of online education, many children are addicted to games.
Most kids are used to these games, even though they seem to be logged into lessons from computers, cell phones, etc. They are more inclined to games like Fry Fire. Children must be freed from this. On the other hand, domestic violence has also increased. Many children report domestic violence against adults. As soon as the travel restrictions and curfew are lifted, we hope to campaign for the safety of children. ” He added.
