Naphtali Bennett (49), leader of the right-wing Yamina party, led a political coalition and became Israel’s new prime minister.
His government, which won a majority in parliament through a coalition, consist with eight parties which represent different political views. Naphtali Bennett was elected as the new Prime Minister of Israel by passing a resolution in legislature that proposing the formation of a new government. His coalition government consists of left wing, right wing and Arab parties. The goal of this coalition is to oust Netanyahu from office.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister for last 12 years, will be continuing as ‘Likud’ party leader and leader of the opposition. He served as Prime Minister five times from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021. He last served as prime minister for 12 years, from 2009 to 2021.
Israel has been the subject of world politics recently due to militant clashes between the Palestinian Hamas group and Israel on last May. The parties of the conflict have now reached a ceasefire in the face of intense international pressure.
The new Prime Minister, Naphtali Bennett, served as Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Chief of Staff from 2006-2008, and previously served as, Minister of Defence, Economy and Education under the Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government. Some Iranian media have labelled him as an altar nationalist. However, most people believe that the new prime minister will bring new hope for peace process between the Israel and Palestine.
