We are now in the third stage of the covid epidemic. Meanwhile, the highest number of Kovid infections reported in the country in a single day was recorded yesterday (26).
The total number of reported cases is 997. The Epidemiology Unit states that the highest number of cases reported in the country was 976 on February 09.
Accordingly, the total number of infected persons in the country as at yesterday is 102,271 and 94,577 of them have been cured. The total number of infected people currently hospitalized is 7,050 and the total number of deaths in the country is 647.
The species that has arrived as the third wave of Kovid has not been identified yet and research is being carried out to identify it from today (27).
The government has also decided to recruit public servants from today (27) as this new variant is spreading more rapidly than the previous Kovid variants.
The previous covid epidemic had restricted the calling of employees to government offices. After the epidemic subsided, all public sector workers were reinstated on March 8.
However, the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government has decided to restrict the summoning of public servants from today (27) in view of the prevailing Kovid epidemic.
Meanwhile, the government has taken steps to suspend all public and private sector festivals within the next two weeks. The government has also decided to ban all private sector events, meetings and parties planned to be held in the next two weeks under the quarantine regulations.
The Minister of Education had also taken steps to give leave to Western and North Western schools until the end of this month.
Meanwhile, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the only solution to the covid 19 epidemic was vaccination. He said the government had a formal immunization program for the people and, in order to successfully overcome the challenge, the people should strictly follow all the rules and instructions recommended by the health authorities, as they did in the first round of the covid epidemic.
