if Rajapaksa government will not fulfill the aspirations of the Tamil people and if it continues in such a direction, it will have to follow an alteranative-R.Sambandhan

Leader of the Tamil National Alliance Mr. Sampandhan  said that, (TNA) that the Rajapaksa government will not fulfill the aspirations of the Tamil people and if it continues in such a direction, it will have to follow an alternative path..

He said that in Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s 9th Parliamentary Policy Lecture, a decisive decision could not be taken on the basis of a few words as the principles of one country and one law were reflected and that the solution to the ethnic problem had been around for 70 years.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has made various promises to India, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and the international community, especially to fully implement the 13th Amendment and to devolve and implement effective powers on it, and to defeat the LTTE militarily in India and internationally.  He also says that the Rajapaksas have made a number of promises when seeking the support of the community.

There is no negotiated solution to the ethnic problem, especially with the LTTE, so they have promised to negotiate with political representatives after the military defeat and devolve a supreme power, but these promises have not been fulfilled.  Mr. Sampanthan points out.

He said it was their duty to come up with a solution that would fulfill the long-term aspirations of the Tamil people based on the promises made by the present rulers when drafting the constitution.
