Government revises 07 gazette notifications

A special gazette notification was issued last night (03) removing the maximum retail prices imposed on a number of essential food items including sugar, dhal, potatoes, big onions and chicken.

This gazette notification has been issued with the signature of the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority Major General Shantha Dissanayake with effect from yesterday (03).

The new Extraordinary Gazette Notification has revoked seven gazette notifications issued by the Government setting maximum retail prices for these essential food items.

Meanwhile, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena says that Sathosa sells rice and sugar at low prices, but in order to issue rice and sugar to a consumer, at least five items must be purchased with it.

He says that CWE aims to provide goods to consumers who are struggling to live and buy goods fairly, and that there can be no single item or two on any bill or receipt, and that Halo Sugar can only be purchased if there are at least five items.
