Former President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he considers the blacklisting of the People’s Bank by China as an unjust and serious mistake. The former President was responding to a question raised by journalists at a function held at the Polonnaruwa New Town Buddhist Association Hall today (01).
Mr. Maithripala Sirisena also stated as follows.
“Eleven parties affiliated to the government are holding a dialogue. That is usually the nature of governments. It is not a surprise. This is not happening for the first time in Sri Lanka. When a government is in place certain ideological issues arise among those in government. There are debates about them. Some questions arise.
If we look at our entire parliamentary history, there have been similar issues since 1947. That is not surprising. Now China backlisted the People’s Bank. That is very unfair. People’s Bank has implemented a court order. Anyone must bow to a court order. China has made a serious mistake by blacklisting People’s Bank when a court order was implemented.
People’s Bank should not be put in that position. Because it is our bank. A bank with the money of hundreds of thousands of people in this country. It has backlisted by China. We are sorry about that. That is not a good thing. We have stated our views on the Yugadanavi power plant in writing to the government. We have talked about that. That is our position. It doesn’t change.
