The Ministry of Fisheries is focusing on amending the existing Fisheries Act and drafting a new Fisheries Act.
Due to the shortcomings in the GSP + concessions to be made aware of the problems caused by the legal divisions of the countries of the European Union.
The Ministry of Fisheries said in a statement that a discussion on the new Fisheries Act was held at the Ministry of Fisheries on October 1 under the patronage of Minister Douglas Devananda and with the participation of Minister of State Kanchana Wijesekera.
The Fisheries Act, which is currently in force, discusses the extent of penalties for Sri Lankan fishermen for violating these rules, as well as their shortcomings.
Accordingly, the Minister instructed the Secretary to the Ministry, Mrs. Indu Ratnayake and the Legal Officers of the Ministry to take necessary steps to rectify the shortcomings and introduce new amendments to Parliament as soon as possible. It was decided to present this to the Minister immediately and then send it to the member countries of the European Union.
Accordingly, GSP in fish exports Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda is confident that other countries, including members of the European Union, will consider granting relief.
