Today I appeared in my first Skype case. A text message was added to the Skype application of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday by a request made by me by the passengers, and my client’s name, case number and date were further stated that my case will be called today.
I was impatient about what had happened because I had no answer for a whole day. I got an emergency call around 1.00 p.m today and I put on my coat and joined my hands. Shortly afterwards, the magistrate, Ms. Mudlier, and my servant in prison, the prison guards, appeared on the screen, texting them, saying that they would be ready, and that the case would be called back on Friday. I am wearing a full uniform attire and the official announcement also stated that it is essential.
I note this not only as an experience but also to understand how the world is endangered in different ways, its evolution and human adaptation. Humans and animals and all living things adapt quickly, the virus adapts quickly, changes, we also have to change, adapt. All we need to experience our first hallucinations ourselves and add to the premise is that we can overcome, face and change.
The official announcement also stated that remand extensions or other special cases could only be requested.
New experience is being added to the judiciary, and it is my feeling that my experience shows that online litigation has been going on in the Supreme Court for some time and that similar cases can be heard in the Supreme Court and other courts.
Ms. Mudlier asked if I needed to talk to my client in prison, and when I suddenly realized that my prisoner had just died, I had no urgency because the prisoner had withdrawn and the case would be called back on Friday. My client in prison can also be given the opportunity to speak at the same time, which will minimize the time and hassle of going to jail as lawyers in a step further.
My first experience too was a bit nervous. This went very smoothly and there was no fear or panic. Congratulations to the legal profession in Sri Lanka
