Due to a technical fault, the Kukule Ganga spillway opens

People who live downstream of Kukuleganga Reservoir have been asked to be on alert of flash floods for about six hours following a technical glitch that opened the spill gates, the Irrigation Department has warned.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Irrigation (Hydrology) Director S.P.C. Sugeeshwara said the spill gates of the reservoir were opened suddenly due to a technical failure.

With the opening of the spill gates, 500 cubic meters per second of water capacity is currently released from the reservoir.

The people living in Bulathsinghala, Ayagama, and Parindanuwara Divisional Secretariats.
“This alert is valid till the end of the day,” he said.
