Doubts about interest in passing the Ports Act?

Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero and His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith Thero are requesting the government not to pass the Colombo Port City Act in a hurry in view of the situation faced by the people with the covid 19 epidemic.

Elle Gunawansa Thero and the Archbishop of Colombo made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (19).

Rev. Elle Gunawansa Thero said, “Why try to pass a bill that affects the country and the people? To go. He points out that the views of the people should also be sought in this regard.

However, there is a suspicion that such an attempt was made to pass the bill in such a situation where two people could not speak together. Due to this suspicion, many petitions were filed by a number of parties who love this country. Accordingly, the Supreme Court has submitted 25 amendments. He says.

Elle Gunawansa Thero recalls that some people had given character references to this bill in the past and said that there was no problem with it and that it was the fault of this system.

He pointed out that such a bill should be passed after a dialogue among the people and that the benefits to the people should be properly explained. He said that the people have the right to rule the country for five years.

He further stated that if the government does not listen to this, the people will have to mobilize against it.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith Thero addressed the gathering.

He said the public should be consulted before passing a bill that affects the general public, but there was a question mark over the transparency of the bill, which is similar to the MCC agreement.

Asked why the amendments could not be shown to the people, he said the government should fulfill its promises when it came.

Speaking about the Easter inquiries, the cardinal said that the existing inquiries could not be trusted.

He further added that if justice is not done to the people, they may go to the international arena in the future and discussions are underway.
