Decision to limit the amount of SIM cards that can be purchased per person…

The Ministry of Defense has taken steps to impose a maximum limit on the purchase of SIM cards for mobile phones by one person.

It is reported that a security system will be implemented so that one person cannot buy more than five SIMs.

Defense Secretary Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne has ordered that all telephone service companies under the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense.

This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to curb organized crime and racketeering by purchasing mobile phone SIMs in the name of other persons.
