A mother in the Homagama area who was suspected to be infected with Covid 19 and had 30th after her special needs child was committed suicide at home on 30th Octomber after the distressed due to mother admission to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.
Also, a young man from the Yatawatta area in Matale had committed suicide when villagers had told him to brought him corona when he went to work in Colombo due to corona. Meanwhile, a youth from Panadura was found hanging inside a house last week. His PCR test revealed that he was a corona patient. The police suspected that he had strangled himself with the suspicion that he had contracted corona.
A 72-year-old woman had committed suicide in Ekala, Ja-Ela last weekend. That left her nephew and granddaughter distressed by the corona infection. The woman’s son-in-law was the driver of a car transporting Brandix employees.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old driver who worked at the SLTB depot in Kalutara has hanged himself from a tree near his house yesterday (08) morning. He was transported by the medical staff from Matugama to Nagoda Hospital and it was learned that a person who had boarded the bus had contracted corona the day before. His wife had told the police that he had committed suicide out of fear. All these suicides show that there is still no proper understanding of the corona in our society.
They seem to think this is an incurable disease. There is still widespread fear that the new corona virus will be quarantined. Sometimes the health sector, in the way some media behave, they create such an unreasonable fear. But if this situation continues, the number of people who die from it may be higher than the number of corona deaths. Therefore, it is important that the health sector pays immediate attention to this.
