Buddhist Advisory Council said President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been able to lay a solid foundation for a set of national policies during the past year amidst obstacles and challenges, at its 7th meeting of the Buddhist Advisory Council at the Presidential Secretariat on the 24th.
The media reported that the hope of the vast majority of the people in the country was a leadership that would make decisions based on a national ideology and that the narrow-minded people did not expect from President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Maha Sangha commended the President for being able to lay the foundations for such an action in the midst of many obstacles, including the Covid epidemic.
It was also stated that giving priority to the Buddhist identity desired by the Sangha and creating a social environment for other religious co-existence was another victory achieved by the people during the past period.
What the Advisory Council forgot
The Buddhist Advisory Council has forgotten that Katunayake recently opened the largest meat processing factory in South Asia. This Buddhist Advisory Council has forgotten to deceive the people by creating election promises to ban cattle slaughter.
The Buddhist Advisory Council also said that the President had created a disciplined society free of drugs and underworld activities.
Thieves are emerging at a time with the Covid epidemic is out of control and people’s hunger is rising. When the price of a coconut goes up to Rs. 120 and a kilo of rice to Rs. 125, the lives of the poor are at stake.
The Police Media Spokesman also acknowledges that thefts of gold necklaces are on the rise. He himself has mentioned this to the media.
It is also possible that prisons are overcrowded due to the discipline of this society. People in charge of a government agency are shot and killed because of that increased discipline.
It is perhaps because of these national policies that the government has not yet been able to make a direct decision on the fate of those who die in an epidemic.
Looking back over the past year, there are plenty of other examples.
But we as Buddhists should really be saddened that only the Buddhist Advisory Council could not understand it and point out the shortcomings and weaknesses of the government to the President.
