Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has requested the citizens of Sri Lanka to contribute in possible ways to combat the current ongoing fuel and electricity shortage.
In a statement released today (07), Rajapaksa requested citizens to limit the use of unnecessary electrical appliances and lights which consume a lot of electricity.
“The unusual price hike in crude oil has strained the economy further and to curb further fuel shortages, we request the general public to consume electricity sparingly. Street lights that are not solar powered could be switched off as well. Citizens should also play their part to help curb the crisis,” the statement read.
Additionally, Rajapaksa stated that due to the lack of rain and the dry spell in the nation, hydro power stations have been forced to shut down.
He also added in his statement that if any additional measures could be taken by the citizens to reduce the electricity consumption, by doing so they would be contributing to help resolve the current electricity and fuel crisis.
