An international collaboration on Biyagama Ansell workers!

In the 21th of January Australia launched new program about international collaboration for justice of labors who are rejected from Ansal Lanka company in Biyagama trade zone.

Ansell Lanka is an Australian multinational company which is first leading company of manufacturing medical and industrial gloves.

The Australia-Asia Workers Links (AAWL), Australia’s Asian Workers Links (AAWL), organized the first online meeting to bring international support to Ansel employees, with the participation of Asia Pacific labor activists on the 21st.

Among them are trade union activists and co-operative activists from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal and Australia.

Dasantha Jayalath, who was the Deputy Secretary of the Ansell Trade Union, who joined the company in 1991 and served for 22 years until his dismissal in 2013, said at the meeting that the company had increased its production targets in early 2013.

The company’s response was to fire 10 union leaders, including the union president, as protests erupted among workers against the administration’s move.
