A joint call issued on vaccine equality.

World leaders must make a more commitment for ensure a more equal distribution of coronavirus vaccines to bring the pandemic under control, the heads of four major global organisations said on Tuesday (1st of June).

In their appeal, the heads of the World Health Organisation, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Trade Organisation decry the gap in vaccination programs for the emergence of virus variants that have fuelled Covid outbreaks in the developing world.

The leaders of the four organisations also emphasise to the G-7 countries to fund a US$50 billion (S$66 billion) plan which was proposed by the IMF to help to end those inequities.

Up to now the pandemic has killed more than 3.5 million people globally.

“It has become abundantly clear that there will be no broad-based recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic without an end to the health crisis. Access to vaccination is the key to both, ending the pandemic is possible – and requires global action now.” they said.

According to statistic only 349,745 (1.6%) people across the globe have been fully vaccinated and only 1,691,562 (7.8%) people have received even a single dose so far. (https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations)
