Ahnaf Jazeem, gets a chance to see his mother a year later!

More than a year later, his mother had the opportunity to meet Ahnaf Jazeem, a teacher and poet who was imprisoned after being arrested and detained for more than a year under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

After September 2020, his mother had the opportunity to meet and talk to the poet Ahnaf Jazeem again on October 9, 2021. That conversation, too, lasted only ten minutes.

Ahnaf Jazeem’s lawyer Sanjaya Wilson Jayasekara says that the conversation, which is a very human relationship, was limited to a few minutes and turned into a great inhuman treatment. The lawyer further said that those who visit the prisoners do not get a chance to see the faces of the prisoners properly.

The Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division (CTID) arrested Ahnaf Jazeem who popularly known among the Tamil readership as Mannarmudu Ahnaf, for his collection of verses named as ‘Navarasam’ which was written  in 2017. He accused for exposing his students to ‘extremist’ ideologies in an attempt to make them followers of ‘extremist ideologies’.

He was arrested on May 16, 2020 and detained for more than a year and was remanded after being produced in court last June.
