Unequal rules for North and South!

The law has been enforced in two ways on behalf of two millionaires in the North and the South who distributed money to the economically distressed poor who were locked up during this epidemic.

Police have allowed a businessman to distribute money freely to the economically distressed people of Kelaniya, but a philanthropist has been arrested for distributing money to the people of Jaffna.

Manjula Perera, a businessman in the Nahena area in Kelaniya, had distributed Rs. 25 million. The media also reported that a large crowd had gathered to receive the money.

However, three persons, including a philanthropist, were arrested in Jaffna recently for distributing Rs. 20 million to the poor.

On September 6, Nelliady police arrested a man from the Udupidi area in the Nelliady police division in Jaffna, along with two others, for allegedly violating quarantine laws while sending money to distribute to his son who was abroad.

A large crowd had gathered at the donor’s house on Udupidi Wadiriyan Road after receiving information that money was being donated. Nelliady police and health officials who went to the scene after the incident were reported to have dispersed the crowd, accusing them of violating quarantine laws.

The police have taken steps to release the arrested persons after recording their statements.
