Seven from the Government already against 20…

Government Parliament members have already expressed  their opposition to the controversial 20th Amendment. Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Prof. Tissa Vitarana, Vidura Wickramanayake and Gevidu Kumaratunga were the first to express their opposition.

Subsequently, Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa wrote two letters to the President regarding the 20th Amendment, stating that he could not vote for the 20th Amendment in accordance with his conscience. Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara has also written a letter to the Prime Minister recently stating that he could not support the 20th amendment.

Meanwhile, Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero, Ven. Murathettuwe Ananda Thera, Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, Ven. Iduragare Dhammaratana Thera, Ven. The President has been informed in writing not to do so. The Amarapura and Ramanya sangha sabha also expressed their opposition at a press conference recently.
