Sumedha Amarasinghe, Media Secretary of the Joint Association of Leasing and Debt Payers, has questioned the government on how the average person in this country would face leasing and loan problems if they could not pay their debts and could not contribute to the Covid Fund.

He says he is not sure how far these people will endure the pressure and that many of the people involved in these financial problems have been at home for the past few days, even though everyone else has been working.
He says that the savings are running out now and in the meantime the question has arisen as to whether these people will be able to repay the lease and loan installments within this month.
Speaking on the story of State Minister Piyal Nishantha’s salary being slashed to the banks, Mr. Sumedha asked, “What is the institution that deduct the entire salary?” Is it possible to get a loan in such a manner? Then how do their family afford food and living?
“This story proves the plight of ordinary people, but they cannot give voice cut to media and that this lawlessness has created this problem for the majority of the country’s population of nearly 8 million people” he also stated.
According to the Central Bank, banks and financial institutions topped the list of companies that made a profit last year, and their profits more than doubled from the previous year.
He emphasizes that all these financial institutions and banks have rip off the people and has made a fortune in the face of such concessions.
He was speaking at a press conference held by the Joint Association of Leasing and Debtpayers. Secretary of the Association Asanka Ruwan Pothupitiya and Convener Sanjaya Mahawatte also commented there.
